Do you love Sea Turtles?

The Sea Turtle Awareness speciality course is a fun way to learn more about sea turtles and spend time viewing sea turtles.

What you learn

Become familiar with the role of Project AWARE in preserving the aquatic environment.

Learn about the sea turtle species of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.

Learn to identify turtles and record sightings.

Learn about the decline of sea turtle populations, their importance to marine biodiversity, and what you can do to reduce the loss of sea turtles worldwide.

These courses Include:

Classroom instruction and dive briefing

Two dives looking for sea turtles, includes air and weights.

Certification Fee

What do I need?

Certified divers must have mask, fins, snorkel, dive booties, full wetsuit (no shorties) and gloves for these dives.

Cost

$300 for 1-2 certified divers. Scuba system can be provided for additional $50 per diver.

When and Where

Typically this course involves two jetty dives. The first at Packery Channel Jetties in Corpus Christi and the next dive in nearby Port Aransas, at the Port Aransas Jetties. The dives occur in late summer when juvenile green sea turtles are commonly seen and visibility is best. See video above.  The course could also be done during a Caribbean, Flower Garden Banks or other dive trip where sea turtles are found.
